Tunisia clinched their place at the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic win over Equatorial Guinea on Monday.
Morocco became the first African side to book their spot at the 2026 finals, the 2022 semi-finalists doing so in style with a 5-0 win over Niger.
It was a much less routine victory for Tunisia, who required a 94th-minute goal from Mohamed Ben Romdhane to clinch a 1-0 win in Malabo.
Firas Chaouat robbed Saul Coco of possession on the right flank, giving him a clear path to go as Equatorial Guinea were caught on the counter. Chaouat squared to Romdhane, who had the simple task of rolling home from point-blank range with goalkeeper Jesus Owono completely helpless.
The win gives Tunisia an unassailable lead at the top of CAF qualifying Group H with two games remaining.
Tunisia will make a third successive appearance at the finals, though they have never progressed beyond the group stage. With the tournament expanded from 32 teams to 48 with the eight best third-place finishers progressing from the group stage, the Carthage Eagles will be confident of changing that record in 2026.
