Vincent Kompany admitted his Bayern Munich side simply “did their job” in brushing aside part-timers Auckland City in the Club World Cup this afternoon.
Bayern won 10-0 in Cincinnati in a game that did little to silence critics of the expanded competition. The gulf in class was enormous with Bayern scoring after four minutes and spending the entire game camped in the Auckland half.
Jamal Musiala came off the bench to score a hat-trick while Kingsley Coman, Michael Olise and Thomas Muller each netted twice.

Kompany cool after record-breaking win
It was a complete mis-match and even Bayern boss Kompany refused to go overboard with superlatives for his players.
He said: “We don’t need praise or anything like that right now, we just did our job. We played very seriously. We did what we had to do, and perhaps the goal difference in this group is not unimportant.
“When a team sits deep and defends well, it’s not a given that you’ll score 10 goals. We couldn’t have done much more today.”
Muller’s second was his 250th in Bayern colours as he prepares to leave his boyhood club at the end of the tournament.
The 35-year-old said: “We played well, we played seriously, we played with intensity. We didn’t let anything slip or leave anything to chance. After every goal, we pushed for the next one.
“We stayed aggressive up front. With the ball, we immediately wanted to create the next opportunity, and that’s why we earned this result, including the scoreline.”
Although the TQL Stadium was not full, with about 21,000 in attendance, Muller was impressed by the turnout.
“We had fans who were really into the game and reacted to the flow of play, especially celebrating the goals,” he added.
“After my last goal, I had a great moment celebrating with them. They were totally behind us. It was a lot of fun. And I have to say, the stadium was a proper football stadium.”

Vicelich proud of his players
It was a rough afternoon for Auckland, although they deserved great credit for fighting until the end despite the obvious gap in quality.
Interim coach Ivan Vicelich said: “This is the reality of football against one of the world’s top teams.
“It is a dream for players coming from an amateur level to play in this environment.
“We knew it was going to be a very difficult game, playing against one of the top teams in the world, potentially one of the favourites for the Club World Cup, so we are just really proud of the players’ efforts.”
