Blue Jays’ Sandlin, Francis inching closer to return fasterkora.xyz

A couple injured Toronto Blue Jays pitchers continue to progress through their rehab.

Reliever Nick Sandlin, who’s on the 60-day injured list and hasn’t pitched since July 7 due to right elbow inflammation, threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling reported on Saturday.

Zwelling added Sandlin’s bullpen was described as “OK,” and that he’ll throw another session in the coming days as he hopes to rejoin the club’s fight into October.

The right-hander’s throwing program has been shut down twice during his rehab after receiving injections to reduce inflammation.

The Blue Jays acquired Sandlin in the off-season from the Cleveland Guardians alongside Andres Gimenez. In 16.1 innings this season, the 28-year-old owns a 2.20 ERA while striking out 16 batters.

Meanwhile, fellow righty Bowden Francis will throw one inning of live batting practice on Saturday at the Blue Jays complex in Dunedin, Zwelling reported. He’s progressed well through his program and could become an option down the road, per Zwelling.

Francis was placed on the IL on June 17 with a right shoulder impingement.

The 29-year-old was expected to hold a key rotation spot this season after tossing a sparkling 1.53 ERA over the final two months of the 2024 season. But in 14 starts in 2025, Francis owns a 6.05 ERA while allowing 19 home runs.
