The Mets are doubling down on a mid-season acquisition.
Outfielder Jesse Winker, who was picked up from the Washington Nationals around last year’s trade deadline, will re-sign in New York, SportsNet New York’s Andy Martino reported on Thursday.
Winker’s deal is worth $7.5 million over one year and is pending a physical, The New York Post’s Joel Sherman reported.
Winker played 145 games between the Nationals and Mets last season, totalling 14 homers, 58 RBIs and 14 stolen bases to go with a .253 batting average.
The 31-year-old began his MLB career with the Cincinnati Reds in 2017 and has played for the Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers in addition to the Nationals and Mets.
Winker has a .262 career average with 95 homers and 324 RBIs over eight major league seasons. He was an All-Star in 2021, when he hit a career-best .305 with 24 homers and 71 RBIs.
New York already made the biggest splash of the off-season, winning the Juan Soto sweepstakes with a 15-year, $765 million contract.
Longtime Mets slugger Pete Alonso remains available on the open market.
However, the Winker signing could signal that the Mets are ready to move on without Alonso, Sherman reported.
