Boston Red Sox Unveil New “Fenway Greens” City Connect Uniform – SportsLogos.Net News fasterkora.xyz

It’s big, it’s green, and now… it’s a baseball uniform!

The Boston Red Sox have officially unveiled their second Nike MLB City Connect uniform this afternoon, a new green-heavy look designed as a tribute to the team’s home ballpark and its iconic “Green Monster.” Wasting absolutely no time, these new “Fenway Greens” uniforms will make their first on-field appearance tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET when the Atlanta Braves visit the ballpark.

“There’s nothing more we’d rather highlight than this amazing ballpark,” said Troup Parkinson, Red Sox Chief Marketing and Partnerships Officer, in a conversation with SportsLogos.Net. “This is truly part of our brand and our existence, and it deserves to be highlighted this way.”

Matching the leak that circulated earlier this month, we see a Fenway Green jersey with “BOSTON” across the front in the same white hand-painted style typeface that graces the stadium’s outfield scoreboard. A player number on the front of the jersey, a first in Red Sox history, appears to the lower left in yellow—again, this is a reference to the scoreboard, where yellow numbers indicate runs scored in the current inning.

More Fenway Park scoreboard elements are included on this jersey with the new sleeve patch, a white “B” (for Boston) inside a green and white circle. This is a nod to the “H” and “E” lights on the board that indicate whether the official scorekeeper ruled the most recent play a hit or an error. The jock tag includes a series of green and red dots, a direct reference to the balls, strikes, and outs lights on the Green Monster scoreboard. The inside back collar features “1912”, the year the ballpark was opened, on a grey field, paying tribute to the concrete room behind the scoreboard—a favourite spot for players and others to sign while visiting during trips to Fenway.

“You don’t have to love the Red Sox or baseball or sports,” Parkinson explained, “to want to come to Fenway Park or to look at these and think, ‘Ah, that’s the Red Sox.’ It’s about subtle touches that lead people to a brand and an organization. Even the ball-strike-out lights—we showed those to designers from Nike who aren’t baseball fans, and even they were like, ‘I know what that is.’”

On the back of the jersey, the white player numbers keep the scoreboard-style theme going with a small notch cut out of the top of each, inspired by the metal plates used for the numbers on the scoreboard.

“When we launched our first City Connect, we loved the reaction, but this time around we wanted to create something lasting,” Parkinson said. “The ballpark deserves it. After 100-plus years of hosting baseball games, we felt like this was a way to show that respect—by making Fenway the centre of the story.”

Like the jersey, the ballcap is green, with the team’s familiar “B” logo on the front. The “B” logo has been recoloured green and white to match the rest of the set. The pants are white, with striping on the belt loops(!) and a double green stripe down the side of the pants.

“You’ll notice the hat is extremely simple, it’s not the star, the colour is doing the work” said Parkinson. “It’s just the Fenway green with the white normal on-field B. We had started to get into things like yellow brims, and you start to get a little Oakland A’s. You have to be careful.”

“We did some detail around the belt loops, which maybe people don’t care about,” Parkinson added, “but it heightened it a little for us. It made it classic in our minds, and it paid tribute to the ballpark. I think people overlook the power of the pants in these designs—there are some City Connect uniforms where I love the jersey, but then the pants show up and I’m like, ah, wow.”

The player’s number on the back includes little notches in the top of each number

Fans should note that while this is a new City Connect uniform for the Red Sox, the team will still wear the yellow Boston Marathon-inspired set introduced in 2021. During the off-season, it was promoted from City Connect to an official alternate uniform. The navy blue alternate jersey the team had been wearing now and then on the road was dropped from the rotation to make room for this new uniform. Boston is actually one of the few teams to be permitted to wear a specialty uniform; their one-game-only Patriots’ Day white “BOSTON” option is officially listed as an “Alternate 3” uniform.

“We’re fortunate, and we’re thankful to Nike and Major League Baseball for allowing us to be five plus one,” said Parkinson, referring to the league’s typical four-plus-one uniform policy. “We sacrificed the navy blue for the yellow, because the marathon’s not going anywhere. It’s become a staple for us. This green? That’s different. This is part of who we are.”

According to Parkinson, the uniform was two years in the making and only came to life once the team felt confident they had accurately matched the Green Monster’s colour.

“We were concerned, and we were like, if we don’t get the colour right, we’re just not going to do it. So, we were thrilled when we got some samples and tweaked and tweaked and tweaked, and finally, we got what we actually first put on our players last week, and they loved it.”

“This one was hard to do,” he said. “If you’re going to represent Fenway, it has to be done right. This isn’t just a building—it’s part of our brand, our identity. So for us, this wasn’t about doing something flashy. We didn’t do this because we could. We did it because we had something worth doing.”

The Red Sox will wear the new “Fenway Greens” uniform again on Friday, May 23, with a Rafael Devers light-up bobblehead giveaway for the first 7,500 fans. Additional themed promotions are scheduled for May 25, June 11, and August 16. Beyond those dates, it’ll be up to the team’s players and staff.

“After that, it’s going to be up to AC [manager Alex Cora] and the players to decide when they wear them,” said Parkinson. “That’s what we’ve done, even with the Marathon-inspired jerseys. Obviously, we wear them that weekend. But after that, it’s up to the clubhouse. And I think that’s kind of the way it should be.”

With the unveiling of Boston’s new set today, all eight of the 2025 City Connect uniforms are now accounted for. The Red Sox join the Astros, Nationals, Giants, Rockies, White Sox, Marlins, and Diamondbacks in releasing updated City Connect 2.0 designs this year. We’ll have to wait, probably until March of 2026, to find out who will be the next team to reveal a new City Connect uniform.

The new “Fenway Greens” City Connect jersey, cap, shirts, pennants, and more are available right now at the Red Sox Team Store and online via Fanatics and MLBShop.com.
