Max Scherzer will get the nod on Friday against the Kansas City Royals, but the weekend’s starters have yet to be determined, manager John Schneider told reporters.
The start will come on one day of extra rest for the 41-year-old Scherzer, who last pitched Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles.
Friday’s game also represents the first possible chance for the Blue Jays to clinch a post-season berth, pending Thursday’s results.
On Wednesday, manager John Schneider said Trey Yesavage would also pitch during the weekend series against the Royals, though his role had yet to be determined.
With Kevin Gausman having gone Wednesday and Chris Bassitt starting Thursday, it seemingly leaves Yesavage, Shane Bieber and Jose Berrios as options for Saturday and Sunday.
Toronto’s series in Kansas City will mark the end of a 13-game-in-13-days stretch for the club and its final road series of the season. After an off-day Monday, the Blue Jays will return home to Rogers Centre for a pair of three-game sets against the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.
