Isak breaks silence over future and says he ‘can’t continue’ at Newcastle fasterkora.xyz

Alexander Isak has finally broken his silence over his future at Newcastle, saying the “trust is lost” and he “can’t continue” at the club amid sustained interest from Liverpool.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Isak, who was voted in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) men’s team of the season for 2024/25 but has not been part of the Magpies’ pre-season or start of the new campaign, claimed that promises were broken and “change is in the best interests of everyone”.

The statement read: “First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way.

“I’m not at the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there.

He said: “I’m proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.

“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Sweden striker this summer. The Reds saw a £110m plus add-ons bid rejected by Newcastle at the start of August.

The 25-year-old scored 23 goals in 34 Premier League appearances last term as Eddie Howe’s men finished fifth to qualify for the Champions League.

Last term also saw the club end a 70-year wait for a major trophy when they lifted the Carabao Cup, with Isak scoring in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the final at Wembley.
