The Bucs are temporarily thin at running back. To address this, they have signed former Ravens running back Owen Wright. This is according to Greg Auman of Fox Sports.
With two running backs injured, Bucs are signing former Ravens RB Owen Wright, who worked out for them Wednesday and was a tryout player at rookie minicamp. Once had 89 yards and a TD vs. Bucs in 2023 preseason game.

Owen Wright Profile
Owen Wright is a former undrafted free agent who turned pro in 2023. Over five collegiate seasons for William & Mary and Monmouth, Wright totaled 968 yards over 239 carries, averaging 4.1 yards per tote while scoring 19 touchdowns. He added 19 catches for 140 yards and another two scores. His last two seasons at Monmouth he carried the ball 164 times for 666 yards and 18 touchdowns, including a 16-score season in 2022.
Wright signed with the Ravens out of college and spent his rookie season bouncing between their practice squad and active roster. In the preseason he had 23 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown. He made his NFL regular season debut in week eight, playing eight special teams snaps.
Last year he played in all three preseason games, carrying the ball 18 times for 52 yards. The Ravens placed him on injured reserve before the season started, and he missed the regular season.
Athletically, he doesn’t stand out in any particular area, scoring a 5.53 on Kent Lee Platte’s Relative Athletic Score metric.

Bucs Depth Tested
While all three of the Buccaneers’ top running backs are healthy, their back-of-the-roster options have been dealing with some ailments. Both D.J. Williams and Josh Williams are dealing with undisclosed injuries. There has not been a roster move corresponding to Owen Wright’s addition. Head coach Todd Bowles alluded to several players dealing with hamstring injuries in recent days, although he did not specifically name either running back.
There is a chance the team could carry a fourth running back on their roster if anyone not named Bucky Irving, Rachaad White or Sean Tucker has a stellar camp. Quarterback Baker Mayfield singled out Josh Williams as a standout just last week when he was asked for under-the-radar players that have impressed him, so if Williams can return to practice and continue on that trajectory, he could make a roster decision difficult on the Tampa Bay coaching staff.

As for Wright, at 5-feet-9-inches and 214 pounds he brings a low center of gravity and a strong core that lends him to goal line opportunities.
