Paris Saint-Germain were forced to settle for a point at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy as Ethan Mbappe – the younger brother of Kylian – came off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser for Lille, cancelling out Nuno Mendes’ stunning free-kick in an entertaining 1–1 draw.
The match began at a frantic pace, with both sides eager to assert control but struggling to create meaningful chances.
Lille’s energetic press unsettled PSG early on, with Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Olivier Giroud combining well to cause problems down the left flank.
For PSG, Bradley Barcola was their liveliest outlet before the break. The French winger repeatedly cut inside from the left, testing Lille’s defence with his dribbling and pace.
Yet despite his efforts, Luis Enrique’s side failed to register a shot on target until the closing stages of the first half.
The champions’ frustrations were summed up by Ramos’ mistimed effort and Hernandez’s speculative strike from distance, both failing to trouble goalkeeper Ozer.
At half-time, the deadlock remained unbroken at 0–0, with neither side able to find a cutting edge.
PSG’s lack of creativity prompted Enrique to act, introducing Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes in a triple substitution just before the hour mark – changes that would soon alter the complexion of the contest.
The breakthrough arrived in the 66th minute, and it was one of the goals of the season. After Hakimi was fouled on the edge of the area, Mendes stepped up from 25 yards and unleashed a spectacular curling free-kick into the top corner, leaving Ozer helpless.
The left-back’s first goal of the season gave PSG a 1-0 lead and briefly appeared to set them on course for victory.
Lille responded immediately, injecting pace and urgency through substitutes Osame Sahraoui, Felix Correia, and later Hamza Igamane and Ethan Mbappe. The hosts pushed higher, and their persistence paid off in the 85th minute.
PSG carelessly surrendered possession inside their own half, and Igamane seized the loose ball before driving towards goal. The young striker slipped in Ethan Mbappe, who cut inside onto his left foot and fired low through Beraldo’s legs into the bottom corner – a calm, composed finish that drew Lille level at 1-1.
The irony was not lost on the home crowd, as the 17-year-old former PSG academy player celebrated his first Ligue 1 goal with his brother Kylian watching on from the stands.
The final minutes were end-to-end, with both sides chasing a winner. PSG came closest when Ramos and Hakimi each squandered golden chances, while Lille almost stole it through Mbappe again, only for Beraldo to block his effort in stoppage time.
