Gianluigi Donnarumma hit back at his critics after his penalty shoot-out heroics enabled Paris Saint-Germain to squeeze past Liverpool and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League last night.
Donnarumma saved from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones as PSG won the spot-kicks 4-1 after the tie finished 1-1 on aggregate.
Ousmane Dembele’s first-half goal saw the Ligue 1 leaders win 1-0 on the night, eight days after Liverpool won by the same score at the Parc des Princes.

Donnarumma hits back
Donnarumma was criticised by some members of the French media for allowing Harvey Elliott’s late goal to squirm under his right hand last week and he was delighted to have answered back at Anfield.
The Italy international told Sky Italia: “I see a lot of criticism from journalists, if you can call them that, without knowing what the job [of goalkeeper] is.
“In the first leg we conceded a shot and a goal, it seemed like it was my fault: I always think about smiling, giving my best and working for the team.”
Donnarumma delighted with the win
PSG deserved their success over the two legs and now move forward to a last-eight tie against either Aston Villa or Club Brugge.
Donnarumma added: “It’s always tough to come to Anfield, especially if you have to overturn the 1-0 from the first leg. We played a great match, suffering as we knew we would. We knew how to do it and I’m very happy to have won, to have gone through to the next round.”
