Barcelona forward Raphinha has made it clear that any potential new arrivals will need to match his determination and effort if they want to secure a place in Hansi Flick’s side.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Brazilian star addressed Barcelona’s reported interest in Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, saying he’s open to the challenge.
“I don’t mind,” said Raphinha. “After this season, I won’t say I am guaranteed a starter, but whoever comes in will have to work harder than me.”
His relaxed attitude marks a change from last year, when he reacted angrily to the club’s links with Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.
The Brazilian forward has since extended his contract at Barcelona until 2028 and credits his decision to stay with the arrival of coach Hansi Flick.
Raphinha enjoyed a spectacular 2024-25 season, scoring 34 goals and providing 25 assists in all competitions.

His efforts helped Barca secure a domestic treble – LaLiga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Supercopa – and he’s now considered among the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or.
“A lot of people wanted me gone,” he added. “It’s already a victory just to be fighting for the Ballon d’Or and to be among the 10 favourites.”
The Brazilian was also quick to praise team-mate Lamine Yamal, who signed a new contract with the club this week.
Yamal, still only 17, has been one of the revelations of the last few season.
“I have never seen anything like Lamine, not from a 17-year-old or even from a 20-year-old,” Raphinha said. “He has no ceiling. He can go as far as he wants. It all depends on him.”
He added that he sees Yamal as a younger brother, offering guidance off the pitch but leaving him to work his magic on it.
He said: “If he wants to reach the highest point of the game, he will do so easily. He has everything to be one of the best in the history of football.”
