One of the top Canadian youngsters is set to join the show.
The Athletics are reportedly calling up outfielder Denzel Clarke from triple-A as they try to break out of a nine-game losing streak, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday.
Clarke, a native of Toronto, has made quite an impression in his first year with triple-A Las Vegas. Over 31 games, he’s hitting .286 with a .855 OPS, 21 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
Currently the Athletics’ fifth-ranked prospect, Clarke has been touted for his strong defence in centre field and solid base-running ability, having stolen 85 bags over 311 minor-league appearances across five levels.
Originally drafted by the A’s in the fourth round of the 2021 Draft out of California State University, Clarke dominated in the Arizona Fall League last year, batting .382 with a 1.060 OPS and two home runs over 19 games.
The 25-year-old also suited up for Canada at the World Baseball Classic in 2023. He went without a hit in eight at-bats and walked once.
The Athletics are currently at the bottom of the AL West with a 22-29 record and just came off a four-game sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels.
