Former Toronto Blue Jays reliever Tim Mayza has found a new home.
According to MLB.com’s Alex Stumpf, Mayza has agreed to a one-year, $1.15 million major-league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The deal is pending a physical.
Mayza spent 35 games with the Blue Jays to begin 2024, pitching to an 8.03 ERA over 24.2 innings.
The 33-year-old had been one of Toronto’s most consistent relievers from 2021 to 2023, but his struggles last year led to a mid-season DFA and subsequent release.
He caught on with the New York Yankees and worked his way back to the majors. With the MLB club, his results improved to a 4.00 ERA over 18 innings.
In the post-season, Mayza threw 2.1 innings for the Yankees and didn’t allow a run.
With the Pirates, Mayza gets the opportunity to return closer to home. The southpaw grew up in Allentown, Pa., and attended Millersville University of Pennsylvania before being drafted by the Blue Jays in 2013.
