Report: Red Sox trade disgruntled star Rafael Devers to Giants fasterkora.xyz

Fansided’s Robert Murray reported that the Giants will send Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs and Jose Bello to Boston as part of the return.

Meanwhile, according to CBS Sports’ Julian McWilliams, the Giants will take on the entirety of Devers’ contract. The 28-year-old is currently in the third year of a 10-year, $313.5 million contract.

Tensions between star and franchise stemmed from an apparent request for Devers to consider moving to first base — and a public, frustration-filled rejection from him in response.

That ask from the Red Sox’s chief baseball officer Craig Breslow in May came not long after the three-time all-star had already moved from third and taken up a new role as Boston’s go-to DH to accommodate the addition of Alex Bregman, all while being his usual productive self despite the internal strife. Devers slashed .271/.400/.494 through 72 games this season for Boston before his departure.

“I’m not sure what (Breslow) has with me,” Devers told the Boston Herald at the time. He played ball, and I would like to think he knows that changing positions like that isn’t easy.”

In what’ll go down as his final game for the Red Sox, the now ex-franchise star went 1-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run as Boston wrapped up a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees.

The now Devers-less Red Sox move forward with hopes of making the post-season for the first time since 2021. They’re 37-36 after a 2-0 win over the Yankees on Sunday and 6.5 games back of the top spot in the AL East.
