Volpe struggled in the Yankees’ American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, going 1-for-15 with no walks.
The 24-year-old also drew plenty of ire from Yankees fans as he tied for the AL lead with 19 errors.
Volpe finished the season with 19 home runs, 72 RBIs, 18 stolen bases and a .212/.272/.391 slash line.
The surgery is reportedly to repair a partially torn labrum. General manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone will speak to media at an end-of-season press conference on Thursday and are likely to address Volpe’s recovery.
