Ruben Amorim would have been sacked by Manchester United if he wasn’t so good looking, claims Carragher fasterkora.xyz

Jamie Carragher has claimed Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has avoided the sack due to his good looks and charisma.

Amorim has a poor record since replacing Erik ten Hag – himself sacked by Bayer Leverkusen yesterday after just three games in charge – winning just eight of 30 Premier League matches.

United were also bundled out of the EFL Cup last week, losing on a penalty shoot-out at League Two side Grimsby Town.

The Portuguese was outspoken following the defeat at Blundell Park and doubled down before the weekend win over Burnley, insisting he won’t hide his feelings in front of the media.

Amorim is a good-looking man – Carragher

And former Liverpool defender Carragher believes his honest personality, charm and looks have helped him keep his job.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Carragher said: “He’s great in the press conferences but because he’s not winning it’s like ‘shut up’.

“Stop speaking, keep your mouth shut. If he was winning we’d all be saying, ‘what a character’.

“There is now a big clamour to get Jose Mourinho back in English football and the reason is because he’s box office, he comes out with stuff, but he was a winner. We always remember Brian Clough – when I was a kid and he was speaking you’d listen because he was a winner.

“I actually look at it and think if Amorim wasn’t so charismatic in the press conference, if he wasn’t such a good-looking man, he might have actually lost his job a lot earlier. When you look at the results they are horrendous.”

Emery and Howe are better equipped to manage United, says Carragher

Results will ultimately determine Amorim’s fate, though, and Carragher feels there are managers in the Premier League that could do a better job at Old Trafford.

“Take Unai Emery and Eddie Howe. They’re not managers that are going for the league, but they are good managers,” he added.

‘To think this guy [Amorim] has got all the answers to get Manchester United back to the top when there are managers that aren’t even going for the league and are more experienced, there are a lot of better managers in the Premier League, and I think it’s going to be tough for him to turn it around.”

United return after the international break with a trip across town to Manchester City on September 14. They follow that up with a home game against title contenders Chelsea.
