Running back Omar Mabson was a 2026 recruit, but he felt ready to go to the college level and he could do so scholastically, so he reclassified to the 2025 class.
From Auburn High School in Auburn Alabama, it made too much sense for Mabson to switch anything up now that he will be headed to college a year early.
Despite attempts from Alabama and North Carolina to recruit him, an official visit this past weekend sealed the deal for Mabson and the Tigers.
“Just everything about Auburn,” Mabson told Christian Clemente of 247Sports regarding his commitment to Hugh Freeze and the Tiers. “Home, coaches, the relationship — everything about it. It feels good to stay home, but I ain’t going to be at the house, though. I’m going to treat it just like I’m out in California or somewhere. I’m treating it like I’m going to college to play football and to pursue going to the NFL. The steps in doing that, I can’t worry about being at home. I just have to worry about being in college.”
That’s a great mindset to have for a young player who will be going to college less than 10 minutes from his high school.
Speaking of high school, Mabson was a productive back for the Auburn High School Tigers. He rushed 194 times for 1,515 yards and 29 touchdowns this past season.
He’ll now get a chance to do it at the college level.
“I’m very excited and I’m ready to compete,” Mabson said. “War Eagle.”
According to 247Sports, Mabson is the No. 86 running back recruit in the 2025 class.
