University of Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes was involved in a tragic two-car accident over the weekend that has left multiple people dead and at least two more injured.
According to ESPN, Hayes was one of the two drivers in the crash. He was driving a Dodge Durango in Largo, Fla., on Saturday when his vehicle collided with a Kia Soul. The fatalities include a 78-year-old woman, a 10-year-old and a 4-year-old, who were in the Soul.
Hayes was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but as of Monday morning, ESPN is reporting that he has been released.
The Miami football program commented on the fatal crash in a statement.
“We are aware of a car crash that occurred on the afternoon of May 10 in Largo, Florida, involving student-athlete Adarius Hayes. Adarius was hospitalized and released, and we are currently working to gather more information,” the statement read.
“We are deeply saddened to learn the crash resulted in three fatalities, as confirmed by Largo Police, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the lost.”
