Bucs Hold 11th Annual Cut And Color Funds The Cure Event fasterkora.xyz

Tuesday was a special day at the AdventHealth Training Center, and not just because the Bucs got another week of OTAs underway.

After practice, the Bucs hosted their 11th annual Cut and Color Funds the Cure event, with players, coaches, team alumni and other team personnel getting their hair cut and/or colored as part of an effort to raise money and awareness for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. The organization holds this event on a yearly basis, inviting pediatric cancer patients and their families to One Buc Place for a day full of activities.

Of course, that day full of fun culminates with the “cut and color” aspect of the event, which gives the kids a chance to assist hair stylists from Sport Clips as team personnel gets their heads shaved or colored red/orange. In some cases (such as with yours truly), it’s a full cut and color.

Chief operating officer Brian Ford, who grew his hair out over the last couple of months, was one of the first participants in a chair to have his head shaved. Other Buccaneer employees were right there with him, with some of the team’s cheerleaders having their hair colored with red or orange streaks. And in some cases, colored extensions were fixed to their hair. That would become a popular sight when Tampa Bay’s players joined the event after practice, too.

Chase McLaughlin and Riley Dixon got things started for the players, getting their hair colored bright red. Soon after, Sterling Shepard, Trey Palmer and David Walker were among those who got a mix of color in their hair. From there, Baker Mayfield, Jamel Dean, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Graham Barton participated.

And even though he wasn’t out there at the voluntary practice, Tristan Wirfs made his way inside the indoor facility to get his hair colored. Barton and Wirfs were among those who received some bright hair extensions as well.

Cade Otton was another participant, and he spoke after practice about what it’s like to be part of such an important event.

“It’s so cool,” Otton said after practice. “I think most of us know people who have gone through cancer and it’s touched our lives and just to be able to go in there and see the smiles on these kids’ faces and to be able to brighten their day a little bit. They brightened our day. This is a fun event and also just a way to connect with some people who are going through hard things.”

Bucs general manager Jason Licht had his hair spray painted as well, while head coach Todd Bowles came in to have his beard colored red.

As fun as it was for the kids and their families on the day, the impact the Bucs are making goes beyond Tuesday afternoon. On behalf of the organization, Brian Ford presented a check to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation for $85,000.
